In my professional life, I retired as State Librarian of New South Wales in 2016 following an extensive career in senior library and university management. I was the President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions as well as leading many Australian library and information organisations. Among my 400 publications are many dealing with human rights and Indigenous issues relating to libraries and information services.
